Perhaps the reason Turkey is still a part of NATO, is simply because there is no precedence for removing members. It does raise the question of what exactly would require a country to be removed from the alliance.

Turkey suffered heavy losses during the First World War While the extent of the Ottoman Empire was, by 1914, reduced (in the past it had included large parts of North Africa, South Eastern and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the Arabian peninsula), its territory still spanned large parts of the Middle East and Arabia, which came to be heavily affected by the First World War.

Four countries are currently trying to join NATO through those plans: Georgia, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Macedonian Republic. The member nations of NATO are represented by a delegation, each with one presiding “permanent representative” who is generally a seasoned diplomat or military officer.

The end of WW1 brought such turmoil to the U.S because of how the war played out it was so much screaming and blood every where and some people’s house were destroyed in the war. People were scared that if they went into another war they wouldn’t have anywhere to hide.

Portugal – Portugal was officially neutral during World War II. However, it maintained a close relationship with the UK, due to the alliance it had for the last six hundred years, which is the longest lasting military alliance in history. The Second World War pitted two alliances against each other, the Axis powers and the Allied powers. The leading Axis powers were Nazi Germany, the Kingdom of Italy and the Empire of Japan; while the United Kingdom, the United States, the Soviet Union and China to an extent were the “Big Four” Allied powers.
